Code of conduct

In order to ensure that our classes are conducted in a safe and responsible manner, we would like to ask you to comply with our code of conduct at all times.

There is NO place for discrimination, racism, (sexual) intimidation, and senseless violence in our club. Members who are found to be in violation of these rules can expect to be denied further access to classes and/or have their membership terminated.

  1. Respect your instructors and fellow clubmates. We come together to learn and improve our skills in the historical European martial arts. Mistakes are bound to be made, but be respectful in pointing these out to your fellow clubmates.

  2. Safety is paramount. Take care of your own safety and that of your fellow clubmates, and inform your classmates and/or instructor if you come across any dangerous situations. Please feel free to inform your classmates and/or instructor if a certain situation makes you feel unsafe as well.

  3. Listen to the instructors and follow their directions. Be mindful not to interrupt them while they are explaining something.

  4. Loaner's equipment is meant for anyone that does not have their own equipment yet. In case there's not enough equipment to supply everyone, make sure to swap with other clubmates every so often.

  5. Be mindful when using loaner's equipment. Don't leave it lying around during the lesson, and clean it up after usage. Make sure to inform the instructor of any sustained damage.

  6. Stay hydrated. Make sure to take a bottle of water with you, and a towel in case you sweat a lot.

  7. Tie up long hair. Make sure that long hair is tied in a tail, braid, bun, or anything else that will prevent your hair from snagging onto something during classes.

  8. Take off any jewelry during training. In case this is not an option, please tape these in or ask the instructor for advice. This is done in the interest of safety, and refusal to do so can be grounds to deny a member access to the class.

  9. Keep to the rules and instructions laid our in our internal safety regulations. These are enforced by the Safety Commission. For example, a lack of equipment can be grounds to bar you from sparring. Instructors and the Safety Commission have the final word, and any appeals should be made after class hours.

  10. Let your instructor know if you feel ill or unwell. They are trained in First Aid, or know which members are trained in First Aid, and can help you.

  11. After class hours are for long question or remarks. Short questions or remarks are fine during classes, but try to be quick and concise as to not hold up the rest of the class for too long.

  12. Let us know if you want to bring a friend along. This way, we can avoid surprises or overcrowded classes.
